What can you expect from sunless tanning products?

Sunless tanning products typically go on clear and you might see results after about an hour. Full color appears within eight to 24 hours. Some products contain a tint, which darkens your skin right away.
Sunless tanning tips: For an even-looking tan

Sunless tanning products no longer cause an orange-brown, streaky appearance. Today the products offer an even, natural-looking tan if they're applied correctly and carefully. For best results, follow these tips:

Choose a light- or medium-toned product, which tends to look more natural.

Before using the product, wash and exfoliate your skin with a wash cloth or sponge to remove excess dead skin cells. Women should shave their legs for an even application.

Apply the sunless tanning product evenly and lightly. Use less product on dry skin or thickened skin, such as over your ankles, knees and elbows. These areas tend to absorb more product.

After you apply the product to your face and body, wash your hands with soap and water to avoid coloring your palms. Be sure to remove any product from under your fingernails. Then use a cotton ball to apply the sunless tanner to the top of each hand.

To prevent staining your clothes, wait to dress until the sunless tanner dries completely, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Most sunless tanning products don't contain a sunscreen and, therefore, don't protect your skin from sun damage. If you spend time outdoors, be sure to apply a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 before going outside.

Will AirBrush tanning cause the skin to turn orange?
AirBrush tanning has been specially formulated to produce a balanced tan without an orange tint. The orange tint is often the result of excessive quantities of the DHA tanning agent being applied to the skin. Through our proprietary formulations, our Airbrush Tan delivers a natural looking, golden tan.

How long does an AirBrush tanning session take?
An entire body may be airbrushed and dried in approximately 25 to 30 minutes. It is important that the solution dry on the skin prior to clients putting their clothes back on to avoid smearing or removing solution from the skin.

What should clients wear during an AirBrush tanning session?
Clients are encouraged to wear as much or as little as they are comfortable to receive their ideal tan.

Will the AirBrush tanning solutions stain clothes?
While it is formulated to wash out with regular laundry detergent, clients are encouraged to wear older clothes to their tanning session so they will not be disappointed if the AirBrush solution happens to stain their particular type of clothing material.

What is Airbrush tanning?
Airbrush tanning is a process that uses an air compressor and airbrush delivery system to gently and evenly apply tanning solution to the skin. When properly applied, the result is a beautiful tan appearance.

How does Airbrushing produce a tan?
Tanning agents in the tanning solution (Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and Erythrulose) react with the amino acids in the outermost skin cells and subsequently darken in color. DHA and Erythrulose are sugar derivatives.

Are the Airbrush products safe?
Yes. Many years ago, the FDA approved Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) for cosmetic use. All Airbrush tanning solutions enhance the safe tanning properties of DHA.

It's happened to everyone: You're running late and you've got T-minus 20 minutes to go from normal to fabulous. I do this virtually everyday. So I've built a professional cheat sheet to assist with instant glamorizing, and hopefully you'll find some easy tips and techniques in here that will help with your routine.

1. Brow ready:
Having well-shaped, groomed brows is supremely important for looking impeccable, as your arches frame and define your face. As far as your ideal shape, leave it to a brow specialist if you aren't sure what's right for you.

In terms of home maintenance, upkeep should be every couple of days with tweezers, preferably after a shower when your pores are more open. (It'll be less painful to pull the hairs.) If you need to fill in your brows, I recommend using a brow pencil, because it will be easiest to control. And use a light stroke. You can use an eyebrow brush or a smudger tip to blend in what you've filled in.

2. Good hair: I've realized that if you just give your hair even five to 10 more minutes of love than usual, it can make a huge difference. I'm a big fan of working with what you've been naturally given —  just add some extra oomph.
For straight hair, you can maneuver volume by a bit of wet styling with a dryer. Right out of the shower, after only finger combing apply a volumizing mousse. Blow-dry it first, with your head upside down. Next, add a little bit of light, moveable hairspray. Blow-dry again (head straight). Add hairspray for a third time to complete the look. This creates sexy movement and body.

For curlier hair, I recommend adding natural oil like kendi oil (use sparingly) after you've washed your hair and then scrunching your curls with your hands. I do this with my daughter's natural corkscrews and let them air-dry. For a wetter look add a hair milk/curl cream and wrap the curls around a single finger for definition.

3. Color appeal:
There's nothing more youthful and alluring than having a tan. If you're strapped for time, having a bit of color on your skin is a fantastic way to get gorgeous without putting on too much makeup.

I would recommend getting an airbrush tan or using bronzer

4. Great skin:
So many times we focus on the details of our makeup when we want to look fabulous, but great beauty is essentially about achieving flawless skin. Now all of us have our blemishes and bad days, of course. But there's not much that can't be helped with some clever foundation and concealer tricks.

Tip: You can use concealer on top of pimples. Just make sure you wash your face first and add some topical acne-treatment cream to the area first before adding the concealer.
For serious blemishes, use a cream concealer and a small pointed tip brush to literally paint over the area. With the other areas you can blend and cover with a disposable makeup wedge/sponge.

5. Eyeliner and gloss: When push comes to shove and you've really got to get out the door, I think a smoldering eye is the way to go.

Use a dark eye pencil, like a black or charcoal gray metallic shade, and line both top and bottom at the water line. Your eyes pop within seconds. Simply add your favorite lip-gloss, and you're good to go!

Few things make you look instantly better than a Caribbean-style tan — a fake one, of course! But applying tanner without streaks may seem impossible.

Recent advances in formulation ensure a natural-looking, great-smelling (cherry scented) options. But the multitude of chances for tanning oops — you know, huge embarrassments like blotchy palms, orange knuckles and stained elbows — is enough to give even the savviest beauty gal pause.

Never fear! We’ve broken it down into 5 easy steps to ensure that radioactive tanning mistakes are forever a thing of the past. Goof-proof self-tanning, here you come.

1. Stop by Sui Generis Beauty Salon and pick up some self tanning lotion, spray or our roll on tan.

2. Prep Your Skin

Exfoliate in the shower with a scrub like Sun Labs Exfoliant Body Gel, avoiding oil-based mixtures, which will leave residue on your skin. Residue = streaks! Next, to ensure tanner goes on more smoothly, moisturize your skin with a quick absorbing lotion, waiting a few minutes so it can sink in. (Psst: Avoid lotions with shimmer. Sparkly granules and self-tanner do not mix!) Apply extra moisturizer to the tops of your feet, ankles, knees, elbows, wrists, knuckles and neck — basically, all the places where thinner skin will sop up more tanner.

3. Hone Your Application Technique Remember: less is more. You can always add a second layer of tanner the following day if needed.Start from your feet and work slowly up your body inch by inch, rubbing tanner into skin in circular motions, going lightly on those aforementioned thin-skinned areas — knees, elbows, ankles, etc. Take your time: Rushing through the process causes streaks. If you have a friend, daughter, spouse or manservant available, get somebody to rub tanner into your back. Otherwise, either use a tanning spray or Sun Labs Roll N Tan.

Try putting lotion on a towel. Then wrap it around your back and apply using side to side motion. When you get to your face, blend the tanner well, taking special care on the jawline, hairline and ears. Failure to blend will result in a kabuki mask of tanner — not pretty.

4. Save Your Hands for Last

Blotchy hands and stained palms are always a dead giveaway, so apply the tanner on the rest of your body first and then wash your hands thoroughly. Next, put a dab of tanner on your index finger and apply to the top of your opposite hand, repeating with the other hand and index finger, and blending well at your wrists. Avoid your fingers and knuckles — they sop up tanner like sponges!

5. Allow Time to Dry

You’ll probably need 10-20 minutes before you can put on clothing and go out. If you can tan before bed and climb into your old PJs, so much the better. When you wake, you’ll be beautifully bronzed and can shower off the excess residue and immediately be on your glowy way.

Women once believed that boiled nettles made your complexion smooth and even. Some used curdled milk on acne. In ancient Greece, women would lighten their hair with arsenic and their shampoo was made out of ashes. Women in Spain would eat clay in hopes that it would maintain their porcelain complexion. They would paint their faces with a powder made of white lead, pulverized bone and whale blubber. Ancient Egyptian women’s perfume was also used as a cure for lung, intestinal and liver problems.

Come by the salon and check out the assortment of beauty products we have available (no ancient secrets).

We have the airbrush gun working: 100%. We just had to get rid of the last one and buy a new one, lol. Full body tans are $25. Half body (arms or legs) are $15. Achieve an amazing tan in less than 15 minutes; no orange, no burning, no skin damage. Exfoliate your skin before coming in. You can wear a bathing suit or chose to be nude. You can not shower or workout (because of excess sweating) for 6 hours after you spray tan. Plan for this when scheduling your appointment. The airbrushed tan will last approximately one week; this is because your skin cells shed so quickly. If you have any questions or concerns give me a call at 446-1313. If you would like to test a small area to see how fantastic the color looks, I will be happy to show you for FREE.
